Introducing The Hardline...

Date: unknown, late 80s. Side A is the Terence Trent 'Arby debut b/w 'The Singles" the late 80s Police hits collection. Both taped off CD! I did think Terence was going to be bigger that MJ and Prince and all the stuff he said. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few songs the TTD album sounds pretty dated. Never stayed a Police fan, Sting just of kind of wore on me as time went on, tarnishing my opinion of the band's back catalog.

The j-card has the Pantone marker layering I was so found of while in art school at Buffalo State College. Side A had some color laid down, rubber cement put down, dry it, add more color, peel off the rubber cement and viola! cool art!

Enough Prince Already...

Date: unknown, 1993. This tape is titles 1958-93 prince Come. This is a recording of his last record for Warner Bros. where he was pissed, wrote 'slave' on his face and spit this one out to fulfill contract negotiations- or so the story goes. The j-card has very little information and is pretty boring.

Down On The Upside

Date: unknown, 1996. This tape got a new j-card with some orange and yellow Pantone markers and some computer typesetting. The ballpoint pen song listing was not enough! I made the little Soundgarden title, cut it out and rumpled it to make it look 'grunge,' and well, with it laid over a abstract clipping from a magazine- we had art!  The tape is 1996 all the way, 'Down on the Upside' from Soundgarden with some period fillers such as Meat Puppets, Dino Jr and Porno For Pyros.

Road Apples & Dookie

date: unknown, approx. early 1990s. Side A is the Tragically Hip's 'Road Apples" CD backed with 'Dookie" by Greenday. Good records, bad cassette art. No art really, just marker song titles. No time for art in the early 1990s, I guess...

The Forgettable Firm

Date: February 28, 1985 and March 3, 1995. A tape recorded on 2 different occasions.. sounds unheard of. Everything is so rushed now. It is hard to imagine side A of this was recorded and then when I got around to it, several days later, side B was recorded.  I like this U2 LP, 'The Unforgetable Fire,"but  the Firm LP on side B -- the classic rockers super group with Jimmy page, Paul Rogers and 2 other guys -- not so much.

The j-card is written in pencil which hasn't faded over all these years with the front done in marker.

10,000

Date: unknown, b ut nothing looks more like the 1980s that a Memorex dBS 90 like this one! Side is the 10,000 Maniacs "In My Tribe" record backed with Tibuk 3's "Eden Alley" CD. The 10,000 cd belonged to my buddy, the Tibuk 3 CD was one I bought- probably in my first 25 cds or so, I betcha.

J-card is written in ballpoint pen but includes a graphic copied from the Maniacs CD. There is some green marker on the cassette shell that still shows up.
